Cook, the blue horse

2 06 2010

A long time ago, when baby Jet was born, I got to thinking about how my hands would be a little over-occupied with baby-ness and how this might make the other two young’uns feel like maybe I couldn’t see how badly they would want my hands to be filled with loving on them.   I decided to make one special gift each for Nash and Hattie and presented the gifts to them about a week before Jet was born.  I had a long talk with each of them – long by toddler and preschooler standards – about how I might not always be able to hold them, but how they could rest assured that I always see them, hear them and are aware of their needs.

Nash named his blue horse “Cook”.

Cook is hand-knit out of blue wool.  His pattern comes from a book called “Dream Knits”.

Hattie’s special treasure was patterned off of a genius gal from Portugal named Rosa Pomar.  She makes incredible dolls out of vintage fabric.  Dolls that I cannot afford.   So, I made a sketch, blew it up, cut out some fabric, and wah-lah! – my Rosa Pomar knock-off doll.

Hattie named her “Pah-tootie”.  As in cutie pahtootie.
